About the Role

Part-time faculty in the Respiratory Care Program will serve as Clinical Instructors, supervising, instructing, and guiding students in applying and administering Respiratory procedures in a real-time medical environment. Instructors must thoroughly know patient medications, treatments, and diagnoses and relate these aspects of patient care to students' problem-solving, critical thinking, and skill development.

Responsibilities

Report to the Director of Clinical Education.
Be familiar and comply with clinical affiliate policies and procedures.
Instruct students on policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
Coordinate with Respiratory Staff and/or RT Supervisor to determine patient care units for students and develop student assignments prior to clinical shifts.
Assign students to specific patient procedures and therapies, instructing and observing proper application of patient care.
Assist students in providing verbal and/or written reports to clinical site staff members for each patient at the end of each shift, following the SBAR format.
Document and submit daily student performance by completing the daily evaluation form.
Discuss instructional issues, individual student learning needs, and student progress during confidential clinical instructor meetings with the Director of Clinical Education.
Serve as a professional role model and representative of the Respiratory Care Program.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Maintain an unencumbered Respiratory Therapy license in the State of N.Y.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching.
Possess the ability to interact with a diverse student and staff population effectively.
Possess a strong commitment to student success.
