About the Role

Part-time faculty in the Respiratory Care Program will serve as Clinical Instructors, supervising, instructing, and guiding students in applying and administering Respiratory procedures in a real-time medical environment. Instructors must thoroughly know patient medications, treatments, and diagnoses and relate these aspects of patient care to students' problem-solving, critical thinking, and skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Be familiar and comply with clinical affiliate policies and procedures.
  • Instruct students on policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with Respiratory Staff and/or RT Supervisor to determine patient care units for students and develop student assignments prior to clinical shifts.
  • Assign students to specific patient procedures and therapies, instructing and observing proper application of patient care.
  • Assist students in providing verbal and/or written reports to clinical site staff members for each patient at the end of each shift, following the SBAR format.
  • Document and submit daily student performance by completing the daily evaluation form.
  • Discuss instructional issues, individual student learning needs, and student progress during confidential clinical instructor meetings with the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Serve as a professional role model and representative of the Respiratory Care Program.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Maintain an unencumbered Respiratory Therapy license in the State of N.Y.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching.
  • Possess the ability to interact with a diverse student and staff population effectively.
  • Possess a strong commitment to student success.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
