About the Role
The CoreAI Platform and Tools organization is building transformative experiences that leverage the latest AI technology while upholding Microsoft’s commitment to ethical and responsible standards for Artificial Intelligence. The Responsible AI (RAI) service components you build will be accessed by hundreds of millions of consumers across the globe and will touch all facets of Artificial Intelligence. The Responsible AI team within this division is looking for an experienced Applied Scientist II and a Senior Applied Scientist with a proven track record to help tackle the challenges of enabling customers to leverage the latest advancements in AI responsibly.
Responsibilities
- Conduct supervised fine-tuning of LLMs, applying Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback and evaluating the results.
- Collaborate with tech lead on designing and implementing Agent adversarial evaluations and safety mitigations.
- Enable agent creators to identify potential risks and apply appropriate safeguards for agent safety and security.
- Deliver mitigations at scale for Responsible AI customers in close collaboration with the Responsible AI engineering team.
- Refine existing implementations based on operational performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve end-to-end issues.
Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Skills
- Full stack (client-to-service) development experience is a plus.
- Machine learning, particularly in NLP and deep learning.
- Language model training and evaluation.
- Research in Responsible AI.
- Programming languages such as Python, C#.
- Machine learning frameworks including PyTorch and Triton.
- Data processing and handling large datasets.
- Engineering methodologies: Unit testing, Test Driven Development, DevOps.
- Platform/API design, debugging and data analysis skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.

Salary/Compensations
- USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year (U.S.)
- USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
- USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year (U.S.)
- USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
