About the Role
The Director, Store Development and Planning (SDP) is responsible for driving store development across Panerai North America, leading the store planning process from concept to opening. This role coordinates with internal teams, consultants, architects, and contractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. The position also supports store maintenance, operational needs, and visual merchandising.
Responsibilities
- Analyze potential store locations, develop budgets, and create project timelines for approval.
- Lead and coordinate with internal design teams and support drawing phases.
- Identify project architects and consultants, and lead the bidding process to ensure budget and quality.
- Align with architects, HQ design teams, IT, Security, and Landlords on US codes and design intent.
- Monitor the design set completion and identify potential cost savings.
- Review construction drawings and monitor permit timelines.
- Identify and bid for General Contractors.
- Manage the entire project cycle for approximately 5 retail construction projects annually in North America.
- Coordinate construction activities between international SDP, local teams, consultants, and vendors.
- Track project costs, process invoices, and reconcile accounts with Accounts Payable.
- Procure and coordinate owner-supplied items.
- Address repair issues in collaboration with stores, HQ, and vendors.
- Ensure boutiques and corners are in good working order.
- Support visual merchandising, particularly for complex installations.
- Undertake other projects as needed, including potential pop-up stores.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of experience in store design, construction management, or a related field.
- Experience working for/with architects, general contractors, millworkers, and materials suppliers.
- Experience in the luxury goods industry preferred.
Skills
- Deep expertise in construction materials, methods, timelines, costs, and budgets.
- Extensive knowledge of architecture, including the ability to read architectural drawings.
- Understanding of building codes, permitting requirements, ADA, energy, and other compliance regulations.
- Ability to review, analyze, understand, and negotiate bids and costs.
- Well-developed relationship/stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to take ownership and drive construction projects end-to-end.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
