About the Role

Working in the Clearance Centre, you will be responsible for the intake of all business, managing conflicts of interest and associated compliance issues across Clifford Chance's global practice. You will liaise with partners and lawyers to establish and manage conflicts of interest, often in complex transactions, and escalate issues to senior members when necessary. The role offers varied opportunities for continuous growth and development through formal training, coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job learning, developing a multidisciplinary skill set and gaining exposure to high-value matters.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on whether new business can be accepted by the firm, considering legal/regulatory requirements, internal policies, and reputational/commercial conflict implications.
  • Assess if new mandates can be accepted in the context of current conflicts, regulatory rules, and internal policies across all practice areas, sectors, and offices.
  • Establish information barriers when necessary.
  • Liaise with and consult stakeholders to obtain views on commercial and strategic issues.
  • Assess and decide if changes to existing mandates create any conflict or compliance issues.
  • Determine applicable conditions for mandate acceptance or continuation.
  • Analyze information within the firm's conflict management systems.
  • Address ad hoc questions from Partners and lawyers regarding conflicts of interest and engagement risk.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation, processes, and systems.
  • Reflect the firm's values and Code of Conduct.
  • Utilize and develop the firm's AI tools for daily tasks and foster innovation and efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Experience in compliance.
  • Ideally, a working knowledge of applicable conflict of interest rules, gained in a leading international law practice.
  • A proven ability to gather and analyze information, and to use it to solve problems methodically and practically.
  • A sound awareness of commercial issues and ability to resolve them pragmatically.
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercise initiative, and manage a substantial workload, including prioritizing competing time demands.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with all firm members.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and technologies.
  • Ability to form productive working relationships with others, both inside and outside of the Clearance Centre.
  • Commercially minded with good operational business acumen, able to identify opportunities for service improvement.
  • An attitude to embrace challenges and remain calm under pressure.
