About the Role
Mariana Minerals is seeking a technician for its San Francisco Pilot Plant team to support the design, deployment, and operation of critical mineral refining processes and plant optimization software. This hands-on role bridges R&D and Operations, ensuring process robustness, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor copper extraction chemical processes with engineers and technicians.
- Safely handle chemicals, raw materials, and waste streams according to SOPs and regulations.
- Support sampling, quality checks, and basic laboratory measurements.
- Assist with the design, installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and processes.
- Maintain plant cleanliness and organization, ensuring work areas, tools, and equipment are ready for operations.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and basic mechanical repairs, documenting actions in a CMMS.
- Create and maintain procedures, experimental records, shift reports, and other operational documents.
Requirements
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in chemical technology, process technology, industrial operations, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience operating pilot plant or commercial scale industrial equipment in minerals processing, chemicals, specialty materials, oil & gas, biotech, or similar industry.
- Prior exposure to core plant safety work processes (LOTO, hot work permitting, confined space entry, safe work permitting).
- Experience using HMIs and plant software systems for process monitoring, control, and adjustment.
- Experience with hands-on equipment installation, modification, and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry, pH, and reaction stoichiometry is a plus.
- Experience using engineering documents like PFDs, control narratives, or P&IDs is a plus.
- Ability to climb stairs, stand for extended periods, and safely lift up to 50 lbs.
