About the Role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Resident Engineer with construction experience in the New York City Metro Area for its transportation team. This role involves overseeing rail transportation and infrastructure projects, requiring a strong understanding of the local construction industry and public agency projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead construction inspection staff for infrastructure and transportation projects.
- Perform typical duties of a resident engineer with inspection/office engineering staff.
- Manage projects on behalf of infrastructure owners.
- Act as the primary field liaison between the Owner and Contractor.
- Plan, organize, and supervise engineering and construction inspection activities.
- Monitor construction detailed cost breakdown and construction schedule.
- Serve as the senior representative for inspection of contractor construction activities, payments, processing, and negotiation of claims and change orders.
- Supervise a staff of engineers, inspectors, project controls, office engineers, project administrators, and specialty sub-consultants.
- Lead progress meetings and interact with clients daily.
- Coordinate responses to Technical Submittals, RFIs, and other technical issues with design engineers.
- Lead final project closeout documentation.
- Interpret construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in the infrastructure and/or transit industry managing rail/transit projects, utilities, and structural rehabilitation projects with a construction value of min $50M.
- Previous Resident Engineering experience working with public rail infrastructure agencies.
- Familiarity with NY-Area Agency Standards.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
- Ability to work night shifts and weekends as necessary.
- Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain in New York State.
- OSHA 30 Certifications.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Pre-employment and ongoing, random drug testing is required.
