About the Role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team in Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects within an established building services team and to continue professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of assigned projects.
  • Liaise with associated engineering disciplines for project delivery.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and pursuing new opportunities.
  • Develop engineering designs from feasibility to completion.
  • Develop resilient and redundant services infrastructure solutions.
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team to deliver projects.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to grow the Mechanical team in Canada and the business footprint.
  • Coordinate mechanical design with architectural and other disciplines.
  • Perform design and calculation work using relevant industry software.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor programs for scheduling and reporting on project deliverables.
  • Maximize project profitability, monitor against budget, anticipate problems, and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise, provide leadership, and coach junior team members.
  • Provide expert engineering input into design and evaluation of built environment proposals.
  • Mentor other Mechanical Engineers and Designers and support their growth plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer status with a relevant professional body in Canada.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical building services design and execution for major developments.
  • Experience in consultancy and/or design and build backgrounds.
  • Experience working on infrastructure projects including buildings, airports, and large-scale transport infrastructure.
  • Solid knowledge in Canada building standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent understanding of BIM/VDC, preferably with experience in a BIM tool.
  • Experience in the design of plumbing and drainage systems.
  • Skills in sustainability and green initiatives, with a demonstrated track record.
  • Positive 'can-do' attitude.
  • Familiarity with energy modelling software such as IESVE, Trace and HAPP.
  • Experience in LEED, with LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Collaborative, open, and constructive approach with developed relationship management, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • A digital and sustainability advocate.
  • Adaptable to working within different client environments/cultures.
  • Willing and able to travel within Canada and internationally as required.
