About the Role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to contribute to Built Environment projects in Canada. This role involves directing staff in the planning, design, and construction of various infrastructure projects, including institutional, aviation, healthcare, governmental, transportation, and general infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of a wide range of structural design projects within the built environment group.
- Lead the assessment, rehabilitation, and seismic upgrade design of existing structures from planning through concept to implementation.
- Collaborate with other professionals, clients, and third parties.
- Write technical memos and reports.
- Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of other structural engineers, including technical reports, drawings, cost estimates, specifications, contract documents, and construction support.
- Oversee project planning and management to ensure work is fit for purpose, on schedule, and within budget.
- Provide project management and technical oversight, including mentoring team members and setting high standards for professionalism and quality.
- Work with clients to identify opportunities and develop new business.
- Lead the preparation of proposals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Master's degree in structural engineering or earthquake engineering is preferred.
- Structural P.Eng license, or immediate eligibility for licensing as an engineer in Canada.
- Minimum of 10 years' design experience in the built environment sector.
- Minimum of 5 years' design experience on Canadian built environment projects.
- Experience in the structural design of airports, transit/train stations, or hospitals.
- Experience as a structural engineer of record for all project stages (concept, detailed design, construction administration).
- Experience working directly with clients, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability in design and analysis of structural systems (steelwork, reinforced concrete) to Canadian design codes.
- Ability in seismic design and analysis of structures to Canadian design codes.
- Demonstrated ability in new build and building renovation/redevelopment/repurposing.
- Strong knowledge of local and national codes and legislative requirements.
- Excellent ability in using structural design and analysis software (ETABS, SAP2000, Robot).
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects and structural design packages on time and budget to client satisfaction.
- Experience in mentoring and managing structural team members.
- Ability in assuring the quality of deliverables.
- Experience delivering projects using BIM and technology-driven solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to internal and external stakeholders, both written and verbally.
- Positive 'can-do' attitude.
- Ability to travel within Canada and internationally as required is preferred.
- Experience in applying automation, computational design, and/or AI in design production is preferred.
- Ability in timber and masonry is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
