About the Role

Own the strategy, growth, and P&L for one of Whatnot's largest or highest growth categories. Set the strategic vision, decide where to invest, and pull levers across Account Management, Sales, Marketing, Partnerships, and Product to achieve goals. This role brings together everything across the organization to enable a community to thrive on the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Define the strategy by mapping the market, analyzing data, and engaging with sellers and buyers to scale the category sustainably.
  • Develop and execute action plans addressing category opportunities and challenges, collaborating with cross-functional partners.
  • Lead a team of direct and dotted-line reports to onboard and grow sellers, activate influencers, and run community events.
  • Source and close high-priority partnerships within the category.
  • Own and utilize success metrics (GMV, buyer/seller retention) to prioritize team focus areas.
  • Drive category growth by identifying unlocks and collaborating with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations to implement solutions.
  • Propose and run tests with leadership to facilitate rapid learning and tackle significant opportunities/risks.
  • Act as the voice of the category by building relationships with top sellers and buyers to ensure product-market fit.
  • Coach the team to understand the business and product for effective seller pitching and community growth.
  • Partner with other Category Leads to enhance the execution of the CatEx team.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in fast-paced, client-facing roles within high-output environments (e.g., Strategy Consulting, Private Equity, or partnerships at a fast-paced tech company).
  • Player/coach mentality with a willingness to engage in detailed work within ambiguous environments.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing a team.
  • Deep analytical skills with the ability to manipulate data for business insights.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of framing and explaining insights to diverse audiences.
  • Fluency with AI tools for problem-solving, analysis, and execution.
