About the Role
The Used Car Sales Manager is responsible for driving the performance and profitability of the dealership's pre-owned vehicle sales, focusing on inventory acquisition, pricing strategy, speed to sale, and leading the sales team to deliver strong volume and gross results.
Responsibilities
- Drive used vehicle sales volume, front-end gross, and overall departmental profitability
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable Sales Consultants to achieve individual and team performance goals
- Manage inventory strategy, including sourcing, appraisals, pricing, aging, and turn targets
- Oversee trade appraisals and acquisition channels to ensure consistent inventory flow at the right margin
- Partner with service/reconditioning teams to ensure fast turnaround times and front line ready vehicles
- Desk deals, structure transactions, and manage TO processes to improve closing ratios and profitability
- Monitor and optimize key metrics including inventory turn, days-to-sale, gross per unit, and conversion rates
- Ensure all used vehicle pricing is competitive and aligned with market data and dealership strategy
- Collaborate with F&I to maximize product penetration and deal efficiency
- Maintain compliance with dealership standards, OEM guidelines (if applicable), and regulatory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Requirements
- 3+ years of automotive sales leadership experience, with a strong focus on used vehicle operations
- Proven success managing inventory, pricing strategies, and driving used car profitability
- Strong appraisal and desking experience with a focus on margin and speed
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze reports and act quickly on trends
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop a high-performing sales team
- Strong understanding of inventory management tools, CRM systems, and market pricing platforms
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Acceptable driving record and a valid driver's license in your state of residence
- High School graduate or equivalent, 18 years or older required
