About the Role

The Infection Control Practitioner is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for preventing and managing the spread of diseases in healthcare settings. This role involves maintaining infection reporting, ensuring IPAC program compliance, and serving as an integral member of the Health Care Team to meet the goals of the Infection Control Program.

Responsibilities

• Recommend, develop, and maintain a system for identifying, recording, and reporting nosocomial infections.
• Conduct daily targeted surveillance of significant organisms and healthcare-associated infections using epidemiologic principles.
• Review surveillance data regularly with the Medical Director and IP&C leadership.
• Develop and deliver formal and informal educational programs for staff, physicians, learners, contractors, and volunteers.
• Assess learning needs and establish a comprehensive, integrated education plan for designated clinical and support departments.
• Serve as a principal working member of and consultant to the Infection Control Committee.
• Participate in committees requiring infection control expertise, such as the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
• Develop, communicate, and implement IPAC policies and procedures based on best practice guidelines.
• Engage in innovative change management and infection risk reduction strategies.
• Develop mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of the infection prevention and control program.
• Utilize quality improvement principles and tools in the application of infection control best practices.

Requirements

• Must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
• University Degree in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Health-related discipline, or Occupational Health/Safety.
• Minimum 10 years of related experience.
• Completion of Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
• Strong IPAC knowledge including outbreak management, disinfection/sterilization, and routine practices.
• Knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate IPAC policies and programs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead IPAC-related incident investigations.
• Experience in program development and implementation.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and facilitation skills.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
• Good work and attendance record.
• Employment is conditional upon verification of credentials, health review, and proof of immunity/vaccination status.
