About the Role
This role begins as a contract position to cover a planned leave for the content department head, with a clear path to a full-time hire based on performance. The primary goal is to maintain strategy and quality during the leave and continue to elevate standards upon their return. The position requires someone who can quickly adapt and work independently, contributing to the growth of the editorial function.
Responsibilities
- Review strategy before content creation begins, assessing briefs, keyword strategies, and funnel plans for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Edit content for strategic alignment, ensuring copy matches persona, CTA fits the funnel stage, and content satisfies target search intent.
- Develop and implement editing standards and improve editorial processes where gaps exist.
- Identify ranking opportunities by analyzing SERPs and suggesting structural changes or targeting unclaimed keyword clusters.
- Perform quality control on all content, checking for clarity, flow, tone, accuracy, brand voice, internal links, metadata, and formatting.
- Provide writers with direct, specific, and actionable feedback that explains strategic reasoning to enhance their skills.
- Help formalize the QA process to ensure consistent quality.
- Collaborate with writers, strategists, and PMs daily.
- Mentor writers and build processes.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience editing strategic marketing content (SEO content, landing pages, email, PPC assets) in an agency or similar fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to edit for performance outcomes.
- Fluency in reading SEO strategy documents, including keyword selection, intent mapping, funnel logic, and content architecture.
- Ability to work independently and make editorial decisions with sound judgment.
- Strong documentation habits.
- Genuine team player with the ability to build trust quickly.
- Ability to provide direct, kind, and constructive feedback.
- Desire for increased responsibility and leadership opportunities.
- Experience in mentoring writers and building processes.
- Ability to ramp up quickly and operate independently.
- Meaningful overlap with US Eastern Time business hours required for collaboration.
