About the Role

Software Engineers II in the Fulfillment organization will work on backend systems responsible for matching the right Tasker to a job and ensuring its completion. This involves modernizing legacy platforms, rebuilding capabilities on modern infrastructure, and improving job matching using data and experimentation. The role requires a strong backend engineer adept at complex, data-intensive problems, comfortable with ambiguity, and committed to well-tested, observable, production-ready code.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve backend services powering job fulfillment, from Tasker matching to system modernization.
  • Retire legacy systems and migrate live traffic to modern platforms, or improve Tasker matching and ranking for partner and marketplace jobs.
  • Work with data for safe migrations of millions of records or for signals feeding matching and ranking.
  • Decompose legacy components into independent, API-first domain services.
  • Build and consume well-designed APIs and interface cleanly with adjacent systems and models.
  • Utilize AI coding agents and modern developer tooling for code comprehension, test writing, and faster shipping.
  • Own work end-to-end, including design docs, code reviews, testing, observability, and on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 2+ years building and operating backend services in production using modern languages (Node.js/TypeScript, Ruby, Python, Java, and Go).
  • Solid grasp of relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases, with the ability to model and query data effectively.
  • Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs in a service-oriented or microservices environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in complex, ambiguous systems, with the ability to break down large problems and ship incrementally.
  • A habit of testing and debugging, with a genuine care for reliability and observability in production.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), CI/CD, and AI-assisted development tools.

Skills

  • System migration / re-platforming
  • Payments or other correctness-critical flows
  • Search / ranking / relevance
  • Working with structured and unstructured data
  • Experimentation (A/B testing)
