About the Role
The Canadian Press is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and passionate journalist to cover a variety of assignments with speed, accuracy, and flair. The role involves regularly bringing in original ideas to drive the news agenda and includes evening and weekend shifts.
Responsibilities
- Writing, editing, and gathering multimedia content for CP’s various services (print, broadcast, and video)
- Reporting breaking news using all platforms, including social media
- Generating original story ideas, projects, and exclusives
- Multi-tasking under tight deadline pressure with speed, accuracy, and clarity
- Editing copy and performing desk work
- Working regular shifts, including evenings and weekends
Requirements
- Journalism degree or equivalent experience
- Experience working in a real-time, digital newsroom
- Solid news judgment
- Solid writing and editing skills
- Proven ability to use social media as an effective news-gathering tool and to boost the profile of The Canadian Press
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
Skills
- Familiarity with CP style is an asset
- Bilingualism is an asset but not a requirement
