About the Role

The Director of Operations and Community Events is responsible for the successful management of school operations, administrative infrastructure, family experience, and community events, ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the school and creating a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment. This role oversees front-office operations, government compliance, facilities management, technology operations, scheduling, and the annual school calendar, while also leading the planning and execution of events and community-building activities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point person for operational matters and ensure the smooth functioning of daily school activities.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to the Operations Coordinator.
  • Serve as an operational partner in the execution of the Nursery School Admissions process.
  • Partner closely with faculty and staff to address operational concerns and facility-related issues.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operational procedures and systems.
  • Manage school calendars, schedules, logistics, and administrative processes.
  • Produce operational reports and management dashboards.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Manage special projects and operational initiatives.
  • Serve as a visible, welcoming, and responsive presence for families.
  • Partner with school leadership to create an exceptional family experience.
  • Address parent inquiries and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.
  • Support admissions and enrollment activities through tours, information sessions, open houses, and community events.
  • Foster a culture of hospitality, responsiveness, and partnership.
  • Develop and manage the annual calendar of community events and special programs.
  • Lead the planning and execution of school-wide events.
  • Manage logistics, budgets, staffing, vendor relationships, communications, and event execution.
  • Partner with faculty and administrative staff to ensure events support the educational mission and community goals.
  • Evaluate event participation and family feedback.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Building Operations, Security, and other 92NY departments.
  • Oversee routine maintenance, space readiness, and facility improvements.
  • Identify and resolve technology-related issues.
  • Guide emergency preparedness planning and school safety initiatives.
  • Ensure classrooms, offices, and shared spaces remain welcoming, safe, and fully operational.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, city, and licensing requirements.
  • Maintain required records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate mandated reporting and ensure all required protocols are implemented.
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • Oversee operational aspects of field trips, special programs, and non-classroom activities.
  • Support the successful delivery of student and family programming.
  • Partner with faculty and administrators to ensure seamless execution of school initiatives and special events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations, administration, event management, school administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects, events, and operational systems.
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to the mission of the 92NY Nursery School and a passion for supporting children, families, and educators.
