About the Role
Wise is seeking an experienced Banking Partnerships Manager to advance payment infrastructure and lead key bank and payment partner relationships in North America. This role involves understanding and improving payment systems, managing partner relationships, and contributing to product development from a payments infrastructure and regulatory perspective.
Responsibilities
- Advance payment infrastructure in North America by understanding and supporting payments strategy.
- Gain in-depth knowledge of North America payment systems and support direct payment system integrations.
- Execute projects related to infrastructure growth, risk management, governance, and regulatory expansion.
- Align with Government Relations and Legal teams to apply understanding of regulations to support policy and regulatory goals.
- Own key bank and payment partner relationships, collaborating with internal cross-functional teams.
- Advocate for Wise’s products and compliance goals with partners and act as the bank’s advocate within Wise.
- Drive and complete periodic and ongoing due diligences for bank partners.
- Lead commercial negotiations and business reviews, pitching Wise’s new products and features.
- Review and improve key metrics via business reviews to grow Wise’s volume.
- Work with product teams to develop vision and build better products and experiences.
- Partner with North America and Global product teams to identify Bank and other partnerships for debit and credit cards.
- Independently execute high priority projects and workstreams to deepen North America presence.
- Provide strategic support for operationalizing Bank / Trust licenses.
- Independently initiate and execute high priority projects that will deepen Wise’s presence in North America.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Accounting, Economics, or Business Management.
- 7+ years of work experience in payments companies, transaction/corporate/investment banking, financial technology, financial consulting, or a financial regulator.
- An independent generalist with demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with product, engineering, compliance, operations, and legal teams.
- Detailed understanding of payment systems and FX regulation.
- Experience with BSA/AML/KYC and risk management controls.
- Experience with US and Canada financial systems, including banking infrastructure, payment rails, regulatory agencies, and payment regulations and scheme rules.
- Ability to structure and independently lead external relationships and cross-functional projects.
- Strong executive-level verbal and written communication skills.
- Sharp analytical and numerical aptitude and critical thinking skills.
- Familiarity with how corporate banks, partner banks, and financial institutions work and their decision makers.
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Outstanding negotiation skills.
- Ability to independently negotiate ideal terms with a clear product vision and understanding.
- Passion for the financial technology, payments, and financial services industries.
