About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building core product features for the Arteria platform. This role involves rebuilding document discovery surfaces, enhancing the document editor, and integrating AI features. The ideal candidate is a product-focused, technically credible leader who thrives on solving complex problems, developing team members, and making difficult decisions to ensure high performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5–6 engineers to ship product features.
- Own the team’s talent lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, growth conversations, and development plans.
- Identify and nurture high-potential engineers for future leadership roles.
- Make and communicate timely, fair performance-management decisions.
- Foster a team culture of high standards, low ego, and clear feedback.
- Guide technical decision-making, including designs, trade-offs, and sequencing.
- Act as a credible technical partner, contributing hands-on where beneficial.
- Collaborate with Engineering Leadership to simplify platform architecture and reduce complexity.
- Improve engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, on-call practices, and tech debt management.
- Partner with Product and Design on document discovery, document editor, and AI feature development.
- Translate roadmap priorities into actionable plans with realistic timelines and milestones.
- Drive predictable execution by keeping the team focused and unblocking issues.
- Ensure quality outcomes for team deliverables, including reliability, performance, and user experience.
- Explore and champion the adoption of AI tools to enhance developer productivity.
- Share best practices for AI in the development lifecycle with peers.
- Align with Product and Design on user problems and project objectives.
- Collaborate with AI Research and Engineering on shared capabilities.
- Incorporate client feedback from Customer Success and Professional Services into prioritization.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- Experience leading a team of 5–10 engineers is ideal.
- A product-focused mindset, motivated by solving real user problems.
- Strong technical judgment and credibility in a modern web/SaaS environment.
- Hands-on coding ability is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in architecture and simplifying systems.
- Proven people-leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, levelling, and performance management.
- Comfortable making and communicating difficult decisions.
- Genuine curiosity about AI's impact on software development and a desire to leverage AI tooling.
- Experience in an early-stage, fast-growing environment with evolving structure.
- Experience in or with financial institutions, fintech, or regulated industries is an asset.
