About the Role
As a (Senior) People & Operations Manager, you will play a central role at the intersection of People and Operations at Cara Care. This position is structured as a parental leave replacement for 24 months with the option for extension. The role is organized as remote-first, but requires residency in or near Berlin due to our Berlin office serving as the operational base for collaboration and team exchange.
Responsibilities
- Responsibility for operative and strategic People Management throughout the entire Employee Lifecycle – from onboarding through employee support and development to offboarding.
- Responsibility for the entire hiring process – from coordinating new roles, applicant management, and interview support to successfully hiring new team members.
- Point of contact and sparring partner for employees and managers on all personnel-related issues.
- Responsibility for the preparation and coordination of monthly payroll via Personio Payroll and ensuring professional HR administration and compliance with labor law.
- Further development of our People processes, HR policies, and internal structures with a focus on scalability, clarity, and excellent employee experience.
- Proactive development of our organizational structure, collaboration, and leadership with the goal of continuously improving Cara Care and making the organization more efficient.
- Building and developing performance and development structures (e.g., feedback, goal, and review processes) with a focus on excellence, transparency, and continuous employee development.
- Design and implementation of initiatives to further develop our corporate culture, employee retention, and engagement with the goal of creating a strong and sustainable employee experience.
- Close collaboration with our Head of Operations to support daily operations and overarching organizational and strategic topics.
- Support in designing, implementing, and continuously improving company-wide internal processes, workflows, tools, and workflows in close coordination with the Operations team.
- Independent handling of operational tasks and projects with an eye for areas needing action, and the ability to proactively structure, prioritize, and efficiently drive topics forward.
Requirements
- Several years of experience (approx. 4-5 years) in People / HR / People Operations, ideally in a small or medium-sized company or a dynamic start-up/scale-up environment.
- Very good knowledge across the entire Employee Lifecycle – especially in recruiting, operational HR management, and supporting employees and managers.
- Experience in independently preparing and coordinating payroll processes (e.g., via Personio Payroll) and a good understanding of labor law fundamentals.
- Experience in a fast-paced, changing environment with high personal responsibility and pragmatism.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to quickly build trust and interact professionally with various stakeholders.
- The ability to break down complex issues and processes to their essentials and communicate them clearly, understandably, and motivatingly.
- Structured, proactive work style with a high degree of ownership and the drive to efficiently complete tasks.
- Enjoyment in designing and improving processes and implementing them – without waiting for perfect conditions.
- The ability to drive topics and tasks independently, combining pragmatism with high quality standards.
- Interest in delving into operational company processes alongside People topics and working closely with the Operations team.
- Initial experience or strong affinity for operational or cross-functional process and project work is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Fluent German (native or comparable level) and very good English skills, both written and spoken.
