About the Role

SYSTRA is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer/CFD Engineer with a specialization in Computational Fluid Dynamics for tunnels, ideally railways, to join their MEP engineering team. This role requires strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and commercial awareness to contribute to a dynamic, high-performance team. The engineer will be responsible for delivering CFD designs for MEP projects, including high-speed rail.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions for tunnel ventilation for MEP projects, including high-speed rail.
  • Produce MEP designs as instructed by the projects Contractor's Responsible Engineer and/or Lead Engineer.
  • Ensure designs are completed to meet Lead Engineers' requirements.
  • Ensure designs are completed to the timescales agreed with the Lead Engineer.
  • Plan allocated design works to meet agreed timescales.
  • Identify changes to project client requirements and raise them with the Lead Engineer.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in using commercial CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFX, or STAR-CCM+.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics and CFD workflows, including geometry preparation, meshing, solver setup, and post-processing.
  • Ability to interpret simulation results and communicate findings clearly in reports and presentations.
  • Experience leading CFD studies.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers, reviewing technical work, and providing technical guidance.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English.
  • Ability to travel to client sites and other SYSTRA offices.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards.
  • Previous consultancy environment experience is advantageous.
  • Significant engineering design and site experience in a similar consultancy or contractor organization is advantageous.
