About the Role

This role focuses on developing expertise in Legal Project Management (LPM), delivering excellent client service, and supporting senior LPM team members with project management tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of structured legal project management on large, complex, or multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Assist with scoping, planning, and reporting for projects, including developing project plans, timelines, fee monitoring, status updates, and progress tracking.
  • Assist the senior team in developing solutions to client challenges.
  • Communicate regularly with internal teams and clients, requiring excellent drafting skills.
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of matter budgets.
  • Proactively monitor matter budgets against actual performance and present findings.
  • Support the billing process and WIP management where required.
  • Assist in maintaining and populating volume data and documentation for transactions and projects.
  • Assist the team in developing metrics and reporting tools to illustrate trends and analyze matter performance.
  • Undertake analysis to support write-offs and post/ongoing matter negotiations.
  • Escalate project-specific issues appropriately to senior LPM team members.
  • Draft pitch content for client and panel pitches covering legal project management frameworks, technology, and process improvement.
  • Support the Manager in managing external service providers and local counsel teams.
  • Capture legal project management case studies and prepare slide decks and data for pitches, debriefs, and training.
  • Coordinate legal project management calls and meetings, distribute instructions, and respond to queries on transaction/project processes.
  • Support legal process design by creating process maps, administering managed service pilots, and creating quick guides.
  • Support the collation and development of LPM collateral, tools, and templates, and manage knowledge-sharing repositories.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Law, Management, Finance, or a Business-related subject.
  • Over 1-2 years of post-degree experience in a law firm or other professional services firm.
  • Qualified lawyers with a proven track record of managing legal work end-to-end are encouraged.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the legal process and typical work product in a law firm environment.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence all levels of seniority.
  • Excellent communication skills, including summarizing complex issues verbally and in writing, and liaising directly with clients and practice groups.
  • Strong analytical ability with sound judgment to balance factors and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of key financial performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex concepts for communication.
  • Strong foundational skills with Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word essential).
  • Experience with Power BI and SharePoint is an advantage.
  • Strong IT literacy with an aptitude for learning new software and IT applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy and situational awareness.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Organized and practical mindset with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Excellent personal time management principles.

  • Experience of using a Financial Practice Management System (e.g., Elite or Aderant Expert) is desirable.
  • Experience of using Power BI (or Power Automate tools) for analysis and reporting is desirable.
  • Understanding of law firm economics is desirable.
  • Experience working with a combination of legal technologies (e.g., collaboration software, automation, AI) is desirable.
