About the Role
The Hanover's Small Commercial department is seeking a Small Commercial Sales Manager to drive new business flow through agency education and relationship building. This role partners with underwriters to support growth and retention for small commercial accounts (<50K).
Responsibilities
- Drive small commercial new business flow by educating and working with agency staff.
- Communicate the company's risk appetite to agents.
- Build key agency relationships.
- Partner with Specialty and Middle Market Underwriters to support growth and retention.
- Produce small commercial lines new business and drive flow with Account Managers.
- Bind small accounts in the agent's office if needed.
- Work with the small commercial lines underwriting team to develop the targeted mix of business.
- Objectively consider issues and information, identify alternatives, and implement solutions.
- Communicate ideas persuasively to build support and commitment.
- Influence others to create buy-in, gain trust, and motivate actions.
- Utilize negotiating techniques to obtain commitment, compromise, or settlement.
- Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with others at all levels.
- Build positive relationships to accomplish organizational goals.
- Demonstrate sales and marketing techniques through effective relationship building.
- Influence producers/agents to sell desired products and services.
- Develop strategies that support the 'big picture'.
- Effectively plan and organize work to achieve desired outcomes.
- Apply different approaches to changing work demands and maintain performance under stress.
- Apply fundamental underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Identify and control exposures and hazards.
- Apply pricing practices and applications.
- Articulate and practice principles of good underwriting within specific limits and authority.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of regional goals.
- Stay current with industry information and local market trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3-5 years' Commercial Lines Underwriting and/or Marketing experience preferably with an established carrier.
- Well-developed sales and marketing skills.
- Proven track record for developing new business.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn internal Customer & Agency Account Management systems.

Salary/Compensations
- The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
