About the Role

This role provides medical directorship for the technical and clinical operations of blood center laboratories, offering guidance to staff, stakeholders, and hospitals. The position involves teaching, research, quality improvement, and supporting management in medical decision-making and policy development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily coverage on all donor criteria questions and support on-call fellow as backup.
  • Make decisions per medical criteria and reply to donor and hospital questions.
  • Contribute to the development of procedures, job aids, work instructions, and medical criteria for front-line staff.
  • Participate in transfusion medicine fellow and other postgraduate teaching activities.
  • Develop relationships with clinical and front-line staff and provide expert consultation internally and externally.
  • Assure participation in quality assurance activities and high performance of assigned programs and services.
  • Participate in regional, national, and international societies dedicated to transfusion medicine, apheresis medicine, and/or cellular therapies.
  • Publish articles, chapters, books, and give lectures and presentations on a local, national, and international level.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to cover up to 5 CLIA-licensed laboratories associated with NYBCe.

  • Ability to provide medical directorship face-to-face, via phone/web-meeting or on-call to various groups.

Experience Level

  • At least 1 year experience in clinical/laboratory aspects of transfusion and apheresis medicine beyond transfusion medicine fellowship training medicine.
  • Experience should include medical supervision of transfusion services or blood donor activities.

Education Level

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Board certification in Clinical Pathology, Hematology, or Pediatric Hematology plus Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine

Salary/Compensations

  • $300,000 p/yr. to $335,000 p/yr. (for New York City or Westchester County)
  • Salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience (for outside New York City or Westchester County)
