About the Role

Ensure timely and accurate patient registration by serving as the liaison between patient/family, payers, HIM, PFS, and other healthcare team members. Facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining/verifying demographic information, financially securing accounts, and collecting out-of-pocket responsibility to maximize hospital reimbursement. Maintain compliance with regulations and identify patients for potential eligibility for government resources or the hospital's charity program.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate smooth processing through the revenue cycle.
  • Thoroughly search the patient accounting system for an existing medical record on each visit, using appropriate search techniques to ensure no duplicate medical records are created.
  • Accurately enter complete demographic information into the system, verifying correct spelling of patient name, date of birth, gender, address, phone number, guarantor data, etc.
  • Ensure assigned DARs and/or work queues are monitored and worked daily, ensuring all elements of the accounts are secured for billing.
  • Financially secure all patient accounts to maximize hospital reimbursement in a customer service-oriented fashion.
  • Maximize the efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service.
  • Provide complete and accurate documentation on each visit to ensure compliance with hospital and government regulations.
  • Provide continuous support of process improvements through compilation of data, excellent customer service, monitoring and evaluation of departmental roles, and proposals for process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred 6 months experience as an admissions representative/counselor performing all aspects of the registration process
  • Associate or bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience
