About the Role

The Electrical Journeyman is accountable for all electrical corrective, preventative, and predictive programs for plant equipment and building facilities. This role involves a rotational shift schedule and reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the repair of all electrical/electronic processes and maintenance related lost time events.
  • Troubleshoot production and plant equipment, HMI/PLC/SCADA systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Follow predictive/preventive maintenance programs utilizing SAP for Work Orders, SOPs, and GMP Standards.
  • Assist in developing new SOPs, GMP standards, and One Point Lessons.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and direct instruction to maintenance department members on best practices and technical applications.
  • Implement training and provide feedback to less experienced team members.
  • Determine and select appropriate tools, spare parts, and components for maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure accurate control of inventory.
  • Assist in planning for equipment installation and removal.
  • Perform start-up commissioning and shutdown activities.
  • Inspect and calibrate process controls, measuring equipment, and recording devices.
  • Implement cost-saving ideas.
  • Perform maintenance on various equipment including vacuum pumps, motors, blowers, roasters, grinders, conveyors, elevators, augers, packaging equipment, compressors, and HVAC systems.
  • Maintain equipment logs, process inventory data, and restock requests.
  • Utilize CMMS System for record maintenance.
  • Maintain contact with Maintenance Manager, production management, and vendors/contractors.
  • Recommend process changes and apply Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • Adhere to operational safety systems and practices.
  • Ensure all safety measures for the plant and production lines are in place and followed.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, including equipment and tools.
  • Carry out weekly reviews of GMP and Premise audit reports and delegate remedial tasks.
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusivity programs.
  • Understand, apply, and participate in maintaining product quality and food safety program practices (BRC, HACCP, QA/QC, GMP, Sanitation, good hygiene).
  • Understand, apply, and participate in maintaining health and safety program practices (lock-out/tag-out, safe lifting, confined space, incident prevention, WHMIS, M/C guarding, CSA Z462/NFPA 70E).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Ontario Industrial Electrician License.
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical maintenance field experience, preferably in food manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and food safety procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure completion with minimal errors.
  • Ability to assess and promptly rectify difficult situations and/or issues.
  • Active knowledge of health and safety regulations in high heat areas.
  • Flexibility to work all 3 shifts, changing start times, including weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
