About the Role

The Manager, National Accounts is responsible for maximizing sales growth within the Penguin Random House Online & Digital Sales team. This role involves managing daily account activities, driving sales, supporting forecasts and inventory, identifying growth opportunities, and building relationships with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize sales growth across assigned online and digital accounts by managing title-level opportunities, reviewing orders, supporting reorders, and identifying areas for frontlist and backlist growth.
  • Manage forecasting, inventory health, availability, replenishment, preorder readiness, and account inventory needs for assigned titles and accounts.
  • Run, review, and analyze sales and inventory reports to monitor account performance, identify risks and opportunities, manage inventory levels, and support account planning.
  • Manage day-to-day account activity, including communication with account contacts, follow-up on title opportunities, coordination of account needs, and execution of sales priorities.
  • Develop and support account merchandising, sales, promotional, and seasonal presentations using account insights, title knowledge, inventory position, and data.
  • Build strong relationships with publishing partners to communicate account priorities and align on sales opportunities, inventory needs, and title-level plans.
  • Communicate timely and relevant account-specific information to appropriate imprints and internal stakeholders.
  • Track account performance against sales goals, forecasts, promotional plans, inventory position, and seasonal priorities, providing clear updates and recommendations.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with internal departments, representing account needs and online/digital retail opportunities.
  • Monitor online retail trends, account initiatives, competitive activity, consumer behavior, and digital merchandising opportunities to inform sales strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of prior publishing sales or related publishing experience.
  • Experience directly interacting with accounts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent product knowledge and understanding of publishing functions.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to develop clear, persuasive, and data-informed sales materials.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, deadlines, titles, and account needs.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to create and run reports, analyze data, identify trends, and communicate key findings and opportunities.
  • Proactive and able to problem solve, follow through, and adapt within a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Self-starter who is self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Awareness of and interest in the online retail, digital publishing, and broader book market landscape.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
