About the Role

The Professor, Plumbing Apprenticeship and Plumbing Techniques is responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students through curriculum design and delivery within the School of Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades. The professor will teach courses to students in the Plumbing Techniques Certificate Program and the 306A Plumber Apprenticeship Program, as well as other diploma, certificate, and apprenticeship-level courses.

Teaching courses to students in the Plumbing Techniques Certificate Program and the 306A Plumber Apprenticeship Program.
Teaching other diploma, certificate, and apprenticeship-level courses when required.

Requirements

A Certificate of Qualification in the Plumber (306A) trade is required.
A Certificate of Apprenticeship in the Plumber (306A) trade is required.
Minimum of five (5) full-time years of relevant industry experience as a Journeyperson Plumber in the construction field.
Experience in a variety of plumbing installations within Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors.
Experience with plumbing systems, fixtures, drainage, venting, water distribution, hydronic systems, and related piping systems.
Ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Candidates seeking full-time faculty positions must demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Skills

Thorough knowledge of plumbing theory, system design, installation practices, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
Proven ability to teach all Plumbing Apprenticeship trade school curriculum topics in both classroom and lab/shop settings.
Knowledge and experience with residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional plumbing systems, current materials, tools, equipment, and industry practices.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plumbing blueprints, specifications, schematics, and related technical documentation.
In-depth knowledge and experience interpreting and applying the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Plumbing Code, and other applicable industry standards and regulations.
Thorough understanding of piping systems, pumps, water treatment systems, hydronic heating systems, backflow prevention, and plumbing fixtures and appliances.
Ability to set up and operate specialized and standard testing equipment to diagnose, test, and analyze plumbing system performance.
Experience with blueprint reading, estimating, system commissioning, preventive maintenance, and sustainable plumbing technologies.
Experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery platforms (e.g., Blackboard Learn, D2L Brightspace, or equivalent).
Ability to convey both conceptual and practical aspects of plumbing systems and installations to students while respecting their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and lifelong learning.
Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
