Responsibilities
- Assist Medical Providers to provide maximum quality patient care and education.
- Maintain an efficient and effective means of patient flow within the Medical Units.
- Ensure a safe environment while in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide care to specified age groups, demonstrating knowledge of normal growth and development.
- Interpret age-specific responses to treatment and demonstrate knowledge of age-specific safety precautions and medication dosages.
- Communicate in an age-specific manner and provide age-specific data to other caregivers.
- View daily schedule in EMR and promptly room patients.
- Complete assignments in a timely manner with minimal assistance or overtime.
- Seek and accept additional assignments.
- Set up exam rooms, office, and stock supplies daily and as needed.
- Assist with orientation of new employees.
- Escort and direct patients to exam rooms and support services.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms appropriately for medical visits.
- Clean rooms and equipment between patients.
- Assist with triage procedures under direct supervision.
- Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition to providers promptly.
- Plan for and demonstrate flexibility in workflow in response to changes in patient condition and workload.
- Assist patients with eligibility and obtaining services through patient assistance programs.
- Ensure paperwork for assigned patients is completed (e.g., prior authorizations, transportation, prescription services).
- Review EMR to determine if health screenings are current.
- Maintain license, registration, and certifications as required.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Maintain responsibility for attendance and punctuality.
- Establish work flow priorities to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current immunization practices.
- Take and record accurate vital signs.
- Accurately collect and record patient data.
- Obtain computer patient data as necessary.
- Recognize high risk situations and report them immediately.
- Accurately collect CQI data and other required data.
- Maintain accurate patient telephone and written correspondence.
- Maintain legible documentation.
- Accurately complete charting, referral, lab, and other forms.
- Demonstrate acceptable technical skills in providing patient care.
- Follow established protocols or clinical guidelines in providing patient care.
- Follow infection control policies in administering patient care.
- Provide patient care considering age-related requirements.
- Reinforce patient and family teaching.
- Administer medications safely.
- Assist any provider as needed.
- Consider patient age and special needs in all care rendered.
- Keep customers informed of delays.
- Demonstrate excellence in customer service.
- Effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
- Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of a registered approved program for Licensed Practical Nurses with current NYS registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- One (1) to two (2) years patient care experience.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer keyboard knowledge.
- Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes.
- Training in laboratory/phlebotomy techniques.
- Knowledge of managed care requirements.
