About the Role

The Clinical RN Supervisor manages and leads care delivery, ensuring safe, effective, and quality patient-centered care for their assigned team. This role collaborates with the management team to achieve strategic priorities and clinical best practices, supporting the development of nursing skills for holistic service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Supervises team work, client care delivery, and patient-centered care in compliance with regulatory guidelines and VON policies.
• Oversees staff in completing risk assessments, investigating issues, and reporting client or employee incidents.
• Monitors staffing levels and skill sets to meet professional and contract requirements.
• Supports staff development by evaluating educational plans and meeting with staff to ensure understanding, compliance, and timely completion.
• Monitors staff performance and provides both informal and formal feedback, including performance reviews.
• Leads retention strategies through coaching, mentoring, and supporting staff in problem resolution and team-building activities.
• Ensures staff performance aligns with best practices and shares Key Performance Indicator (KPI) results with the team, engaging them in continuous improvement activities.
• Disseminates information on clinical scope of practice to ensure staff compliance with changing legislation and policies.
• Contributes to committees supporting safety, financial performance, quality, risk, accreditation, and VON representation.
• Receives and documents employee, family, and client complaints, taking appropriate action for resolution.
• Collaborates with support teams to assign staff based on geography and skills, responding to client needs and priority coding.
• Provides direct support to the team for prioritizing and triaging client services.
• Documents team challenges, seeks staff input, develops resolution plans, and liaises with managers for resolution.
• Acts as a clinical resource, providing advice and resources to service provider staff.
• Promotes excellent clinical practice aligned with VON strategic priorities and leading practices.
• Monitors data sources to ensure accurate documentation and reporting from admission to discharge.
• Participates in the on-call rotation to support community care services.
• Promotes VON goals and values as an integrated community care provider.
• Ensures a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and VON Safety Management System.
• Adheres to all VON policies and work practices.
• Maintains confidentiality and protection of personal information.
• Collaborates with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BScN, BN) or equivalent required.
• Current registration with provincial nursing regulatory body.
• Minimum of 2 years of prior experience supervising others.
• Clinical practice experience preferred.
• Experience in a homecare setting is an asset.
• Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.
• Must possess a personal vehicle.
• Must possess a current driver’s license.
• Must provide proof of vehicle insurance.
• Willingness to travel regularly during the day and periodically overnight.
• A current and original satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon employment.
• A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
• Use of Personal Protective Equipment may be required.
