About the Role
The Senior Property Accounting Manager will oversee and manage all aspects of property accounting, including managing the team of accountants, overseeing all property-related reporting, and preparing budgets and forecasts.
Responsibilities
- Supervise property accountants and manage the team’s month-end and year-end close process, including review of reports prior to distribution to stakeholders
- Directly produce property monthly financial reports for assigned properties or to support staff on leave
- Prepare timely monthly property financial statements for all properties in the portfolio
- Review Pcard activity and expense reports for Property Management Directors, District Managers
- Manage property cash balances and periodic reserve reimbursement requests
- Manage and oversee property internal audit functions
- Prepare and review files and work-paper submittals for annual audits and tax return preparation by external auditors
- Prepare quarterly data submittals as required
- Assist with the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, variance reports and financial dashboards for Property Management
- Assist and support staff responding to regulatory periodic program review audits and periodic bank underwriting inquiries
- Assist with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings – property tax, franchise tax and federal tax returns for properties
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Assist CFO and Director of Core Accounting with management of all accounting operations, cross train with other accounting directors as backup, additional duties as necessary
Requirements
- 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Experience with non-profit, low-income housing and property management organizations
- Knowledge of real estate and construction industry accounting principles and practices
- Experience managing a team of accountants
- Experience with financial statement preparation
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process including consolidations
- Experience with various accounting software administration
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Skills
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- NetSuite experience preferred
- RealPage/ OneSite preferred
