About the Role

PAIR Finance is seeking a (Senior) Data Protection Counsel to join their Legal & Compliance team. This role will serve as a technical escalation and advisory point, develop data protection documentation, and assist with authority proceedings, contract reviews, and the implementation of data protection requirements across various EU countries.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously develop data protection documentation within the PAIR Finance Group, including the register of processing activities (Art. 30 GDPR), data protection impact assessments (DPIA), and associated technical and organizational measures in coordination with IT Security.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for the operational data protection team on complex data protection legal issues and the processing of complex data subject requests (Art. 15 ff. GDPR).
  • Advise management on data protection compliance matters, including IT legal issues.
  • Provide substantive support, coordination, and preparation of statements for supervisory authority and court proceedings and inquiries.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate data protection agreements with clients, service providers, and partners, collaborating closely with the Legal Commercial team, Procurement, and IT Security.
  • Support the implementation of data protection requirements from various jurisdictions where PAIR Finance operates.
  • Conduct department-specific training (e.g., Privacy by Design) for colleagues.
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Protection & AI Governance Counsel, the Data Protection Officer, Quality Management, Customer Advocacy, and external legal counsel to review and adapt process quality.
  • Participate in internal corporate audits and audits of service providers/partners.

Requirements

  • Legal education with a focus relevant to the role, ideally demonstrated through specializations or additional qualifications.
  • Full legal qualification (two state examinations) is a plus.
  • Candidates with a legal degree/state examination or an above-average degree in business law are welcome.
  • Graduates with relevant professional experience from other jurisdictions (e.g., Poland, Spain, Italy, France) are also considered.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant practical professional experience in data protection law in the areas relevant to the position.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, including dealing with supervisory authorities, is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection law (GDPR, DSG), IT/software/copyright law, and data security, ideally with a connection to the payment industry, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of civil law and administrative procedure law is also beneficial.
  • Strong interest in legal, technical, and economic interrelationships.
  • Ability to explain complex legal and technical contexts clearly to other departments.
  • Negotiation-level German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency in additional foreign languages (e.g., French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish) is a plus.
  • Motivation to work in an international, regulated, and innovative environment and to become an active part of a great Legal & Compliance team.
