About the Role
This role involves advising state-funded schools and further education clients on a wide range of day-to-day matters, including safeguarding, pupil welfare, Equality Act considerations, admissions, exclusions, and regulatory issues with Ofsted and the Department for Education. You will also gain exposure to strategic governance work and support trustees. The position offers varied experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, providing insight into the regulatory and commercial landscape affecting educational institutions.
Responsibilities
- Effectively manage an individual caseload with supervision where appropriate.
- Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere as needed.
- Work in a collegiate and collaborative manner within the Team and Firm.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives across the Education Team and wider firm.
- Communicate promptly and effectively internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
- Maintain continuing professional development requirements and further knowledge in education law.
- Support senior lawyers in complex or high-profile matters, including regulatory investigations, tribunal claims, and judicial review proceedings.
- Carry out work for colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, adhering to Firm standards, procedures, and core values.
- Regularly attend and contribute to preparation for Team meetings.
- Attend and contribute to preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.
- Assist with preparing and delivering client training sessions, webinars, and sector-focused events.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor.
- Prior experience in providing legal advice to schools or clients in the education sector.
- A strong commitment to career development and further learning.
- Previous experience handling own caseload and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- High attention to detail.
- IT Literate with legal software and Microsoft systems.
- A keen interest in Business Development.
