About the Role

Administer a variety of respiratory care procedures in a fast-paced setting for patients ranging from neonates to adults.

Responsibilities

• Possess knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of cardiopulmonary systems and infection control.
• Understand disease states, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
• Operate equipment used to administer routine respiratory care therapeutic modalities and special procedures.
• Perform patient care activities according to policy and guidelines, and in compliance with physician orders.
• Document patient-related activities accurately and legibly.
• Facilitate communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
• Review medical records to ensure physician orders for respiratory care are current and appropriate.
• Communicate with physicians, provide suggestions, and initiate respiratory protocols.
• Attend physician rounds consistently.
• Deliver comprehensive verbal reports to the oncoming shift and manager.
• Provide instructions to patients and families.
• Provide orientation and reinforcement regarding respiratory care modalities.
• Expand professional knowledge base and clinical capabilities.
• Undergo respiratory fit testing.

Requirements

• Graduate of an AMA approved Associate degree certification/registry program in respiratory care OR graduate of an AMA approved Bachelor degree program in respiratory care.
• Current license to practice respiratory care in the State of Texas.
• Recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• One year of clinical experience in both critical and non-critical care areas.
• Six months of experience in critical care (preferred).
