About the Role

The Bid Manager leads the PDSS team of bid and proposal specialists to deliver high-quality, compliant, and competitive tenders. This role oversees the full bid lifecycle from qualification to submission, ensuring alignment with technical and commercial governance while maximizing win probability through effective leadership and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of estimators.
  • Allocate bid workloads and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Establish bid management standards, templates, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on quality and collaboration.
  • Conduct performance reviews and skills development planning.
  • Own the planning, execution, and submission of strategic bids and major tenders.
  • Oversee the preparation of standard bids to ensure consistency.
  • Run bid kick-off meetings and define roles and responsibilities.
  • Ensure tender responses address all specification requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Support Sales in opportunity qualification and bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Develop compelling win themes in partnership with Product Marketing and Management.
  • Translate technical and commercial strengths into customer-centric narratives.
  • Review competitor insights to shape bid strategy.
  • Coordinate with Product Managers and Engineering to ensure solution compliance and competitiveness.
  • Facilitate pricing development with Finance and Supply Chain inputs.
  • Oversee creation of proposal documents including executive summaries and compliance matrices.
  • Maintain and improve standard content libraries and templates.
  • Manage tender governance processes including pricing approvals and risk reviews.
  • Ensure submissions meet contractual, regulatory, safety, and ethical requirements.
  • Implement best practice bid methodologies and content management tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Commerce, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience managing complex tenders in electrical, industrial, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or EPC environments.
  • Proven leadership experience managing small teams or bid groups.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to run multiple concurrent bids.
  • Knowledge of Australian standards, regulatory environments, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with AS/NZS standards, utility procurement frameworks, and engineering drawings/specifications.
  • Background in HV/MV equipment, transformers, switchgear, substations, or electrical distribution.
  • Experience with CPQ/ERP tools, bid management software, and tender portals.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across technical, commercial, and operational functions.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proposal presentation skills.
