About the Role
Join the Investments team at N26 as a Backend Engineer to build a secure, real-time trading platform for Crypto, Stocks, ETFs, and Managed Funds. This role offers high-stakes engineering at the intersection of high-speed trading and financial regulation, with true autonomy to shape the product and dedicated innovation time through Get Stuff Done Days (GSDD).
Responsibilities
- Write high-quality, performant code primarily in Kotlin and navigate the codebase fluently.
- Handle deployment, bug fixing, and incident handling with independence, taking features from concept to production.
- Act as a sparring partner for Product Managers during Product Discovery.
- Question the status quo and identify simpler solutions.
- Identify knowledge gaps and technical problems, taking ownership to address them.
- Share learnings from GSDD projects with the wider team.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Software Engineer taking features from concept to production with minimal supervision.
- Track record of thriving in dynamic environments where requirements evolve rapidly.
- Growth mindset: treat feedback as a tool for engineering excellence and have a specific learning plan.
- Evidence over opinion approach: couple critiques with practical solutions.
- Resilience and proactive communication: navigate unresponsive stakeholders and unblock yourself.
- Constructive dissatisfaction: proactively fix broken processes.
Skills
- Strong proficiency in backend development, with Kotlin.
- Experience with Distributed Microservices and Event-Driven Architecture (Kafka).
- Good understanding of cloud infrastructure and containerization (AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker).
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, ELK/OpenSearch).
