About the Role

Associate Instructors will implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students using an original curriculum and a student-centered approach. They will support Scholars' journeys to competitive colleges by promoting depth of understanding and skill acquisition as a coach and facilitator of learning. Associates co-teach, facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors do not have grading responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Co-teach four periods of Math coursework.
Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives, abiding by SEO’s criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
Facilitate the use of technological resources for instruction.
Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching.
Implement adjustments to pacing and activities based on student needs.
Reflect on coaching feedback and brainstorm teaching strategies with peers.
Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote student connections, investment in the learning experience, and positive relationship to all members of the community.
Calculate grades according to rubrics.
Provide actionable, growth-oriented feedback to students.
Complete all grading within 1 week and keep the gradebook up to date.
Plan and work alongside fellow instructors.
Attend all scheduled meetings, professional developments, check-ins, and debriefs.
Respond to all messages in a timely manner.
Meet with instructional coaches at least twice during the semester to receive and implement feedback from their classroom observations.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in content related field.
High school classroom teaching experience.
Comfortable with and skilled at working with and navigating technological learning systems.
Understanding and practice of student-centered pedagogy.
Expertise and depth of knowledge in Advanced high school-level Mathematics (Algebra & Trigonometry).
Secondary Education Degree and Certification (Preferred).
Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) (Preferred).
Certifications, PD course completions, and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies (Preferred).
Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and continued causes of societal ills and challenges (Preferred).
Teaching certification is not required.
