About the Role
Associate Instructors join a community of educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for high school students. Using a student-centered approach, they serve as coaches and facilitators to support Scholars' journeys to competitive colleges. Associates co-teach ELA coursework, facilitate mini-lessons, and provide small group or one-on-one support.
Responsibilities
- Co-teach four periods of ELA coursework
- Follow provided lesson plans and meet objectives
- Facilitate the use of technological resources for instruction
- Read, internalize, and practice lesson plans and materials prior to teaching
- Implement adjustments to pacing and activities based on student needs
- Reflect on coaching feedback and brainstorm teaching strategies with peers
- Project an energetic and approachable persona to promote student engagement
- Plan and work alongside fellow instructors
- Attend all scheduled meetings, professional developments, check-ins, and debriefs
- Respond to all messages in a timely manner
- Meet with instructional coaches at least twice per semester to receive and implement feedback
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a content-related field
- Experience working with high school-aged students
- Comfortable navigating technological learning systems
- Expertise in advanced high school-level English and Humanities subjects
- Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing power, privilege, and oppression
