About the Role

The Animal Care Technician (ACT) I is responsible for the daily operational maintenance of animal facilities and providing appropriate daily husbandry to various laboratory animal species in accordance with all training, guidelines, regulations, and SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily vivarium physical plant and animal husbandry & maintenance duties, including cage changing, cage washing, animal & supplies receipt, inventory control & stocking, and vivarium sanitation.
  • Maintain animal facilities through sanitization of animal rooms, corridors, and equipment.
  • Provide appropriate daily husbandry to animals, predominantly rodents.
  • Manage consumable supplies inventory, including ordering and receipt of incoming animals & supplies.
  • Maintain quality control documentation for husbandry tasks and facility equipment.
  • Provide collaborative support for cage wash operations, including cleaning and sanitizing cages and related equipment.
  • Support weekend, holiday, emergency, and after-hour operational responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and move heavy objects.
  • Must be able to work from a standing position for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Must be available to support weekend, holiday, emergency, and after-hour operational responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (transparency, professionalism, integrity, trust).
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal).
  • Strong commitment to providing quality research service support.
  • Dedicated to providing humane animal care in accordance with all guidelines and regulations pertaining to Laboratory Animal Care.
