About the Role
Perform a wide variety of tasks for maintenance of existing buildings or new construction to ensure the best environment possible for animals and employees.
Responsibilities
- Maintain existing buildings.
- Perform new building construction.
- Complete various general and finish carpentry tasks.
- Perform general masonry installation and maintenance.
- Install and maintain automated feed systems.
- Advise management on the condition of structures and equipment, and recommend preventative maintenance.
- Communicate with the Construction Supervisor to plan jobs and efficiently use resources and materials for timely, high-quality work that conforms to building and safety codes.
- Ensure proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety, environmental practices, and system efficiency.
- Preserve maintenance records as required.
- Perform other duties as specified by management.
- Attend required safety training.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years education/experience demonstrating proficiency in general carpentry principles and practices.
- Basic computer skills (email, Word, Excel, work order system) may be required.
- Valid NYS driver's license required.
- Capable of effectively and consistently performing essential tasks daily.
- Ability to work efficiently and safely independently or with others.
- Ability to work effectively unsupervised.
- Ability to combine specialized skills and knowledge of various construction methods and techniques using all types of building materials to efficiently complete daily tasks.
- Good attention to detail and ability to plan/prioritize work for efficiency.
- Ability to operate various types of vehicles/equipment safely (Box van, trucks, scissor lifts, man-lifts, forklift, etc.).
- Contribute to a productive and professional environment by setting a positive example and demonstrating enthusiasm, diligence, and ethical behavior.
- Take responsibility for actions and challenge oneself to continually improve and do quality work in a timely manner.
- Work completed both indoors and out at new construction and existing sites.
- Subject to changing weather conditions when working outdoors.
- Temperatures will be variable.
- Hearing protection may be required.
- Duties performed primarily on 1st shift with varying extended hours.
- Occasional weekend work required.
- Must be part of an on-call rotation.
- Willing to be part of the snow removal team if needed.
- Must be clean shaven or willing to shave at a moment’s notice to properly wear a respirator/N95 mask if needed.
- Required to adhere to Barrier Affidavit requirements.
- Considerable use of arms and legs including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials.
- Work may be strenuous at times and include lifting heavy objects, standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods.
- Requires manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and physical fitness.
- Ability to work at various heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and various levels of management.
- Ability to apply problem-solving skills and know when to request help from other qualified employees.

- $20.69 - $31.05/hour
