About the Role
Austin Retina Associates is seeking a responsible, self-motivated individual to assist in providing unparalleled patient satisfaction while verifying, communicating and tracking insurance.
Responsibilities
- Verify insurance for new patients and all insurance changes, reviewing coverages, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information to ensure patient and physician awareness prior to diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Assist with pre-authorization of inpatient treatments with insurance companies, verifying and communicating co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information.
- Connect patients with subsidized or discounted coverage insurance options when eligible or available.
- Verify required referrals by contacting referring physician offices via phone, email, or fax.
- Communicate openly with co-workers via phone, electronic messages, and by updating patient chart notes in real time.
- Create records of documentation and communication with insurance companies and referring physicians.
- Scan and input data into EMR/EHR systems including AMD, MDI and Practice Plus.
- Perform other administrative duties as needed.
Requirements
- Master multiple computer systems including Google, Microsoft Office, Teams, and data management.
- Master ophthalmology and retina terminology.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with referring doctors, practices, and patients.
- Possess strong organizational and follow-through skills with competing demands and priorities.
- Previous experience in a medical office, insurance, or administration.
- Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork in alignment with ARA core values.
- Strong interpersonal skills including effective listening, clear communication, and effective customer problem resolution with a warm encouraging demeanor.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective peer relationships at work within a fast-paced, and at times high-stress environment.
- Experienced with health insurance verification and physician referrals tracking.
- Bilingual in Spanish for inbound/outbound calls.
- Prolonged sitting, some standing and walking.
- Talking and hearing both in person and by telephone.
- Use hands to finger, handle and feel objects or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch.
- Lift up to 10 pounds on occasion.
- Continuous use of a computer terminal.
- Viewing multiple computer screens.
- Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Viewing images and operating computer devices constantly.
