About the Role

The AI Interaction Designer will create an empathetic, clinically valid, and effortless AI experience for end-users by designing the parameters, tone, and interaction flows for user-facing AI agents to drive meaningful behavior change and internal motivation. This role is part of the Design Systems team and will partner closely with clinical and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design the human-AI interaction experience for Spring Health's user-facing AI agents across web and mobile platforms.
  • Own the intent architecture end-to-end, including taxonomy, routing, and gap analysis.
  • Drive release rigor for AI experiences, including versioning, staged rollouts, and regression testing.
  • Write, test, and optimize system prompts and exceptional UX copy, crafting language that makes users feel seen, heard, and important.
  • Partner deeply with Clinical and Product teams to ensure AI interactions drive clinically valid behavior change, focusing on internal motivation.
  • Define conversational parameters and graceful error handling for edge cases, hallucinations, or ambiguous user intent.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement prompt versioning and evaluate conversational quality using testing frameworks.
  • Design and prototype chat interfaces, considering latency, tool-calling UI, and user onboarding within the core design system.
  • Act as a strategic design leader, regularly presenting conversational architecture, AI performance insights, and product vision to executives and leadership teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in UX/Product Design, with at least 1-2 years focused on AI-driven products, LLMs, or conversational agents.
  • Deep intellectual curiosity and a drive to tinker with AI as a collaborator.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating complex human-AI interaction design, underlying logic, and user flows.
  • Deep understanding of LLM capabilities and constraints (e.g., context windows, streaming).
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and testing methodologies.
  • Passion for incorporating user insights into evals and other metrics to improve conversational quality.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with engineering and clinical experts.
  • Top-notch communication and executive presence, with the ability to articulate complex AI and design concepts clearly to organizational leadership.
  • Experience integrating AI patterns into existing design systems (e.g., Figma) is a plus.
  • Experience integrating AI UX eval methods into spec-driven agentic workflows is a plus.
  • Experience in the benefits or mental health space is a plus.
