About the Role

Bureau Veritas is seeking experienced Reinforced Concrete Special Inspectors for projects in New York City. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with structural drawings, specifications, and building codes on building, transportation, and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections and testing to verify compliance with approved structural drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes.
• Ensure that reinforcing steel, concrete placement, and related structural components meet established standards.
• Verify rebar size, spacing, placement, and lap splices prior to concrete placement.
• Document inspections and prepare daily field reports.
• Communicate non-conformances to relevant parties.
• Perform reinforced concrete and rebar inspections on structural projects.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of construction inspection experience in NYC.
• Working familiarity with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code.
• Minimum 2 years of experience performing reinforced concrete and rebar inspections on structural projects.
• Thorough knowledge of ACI 318, ACI 301, ACI 117, CRSI Manual of Standard Practice, and IBC Chapter 17 special inspection requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, rebar schedules, and project specifications.
• Strong understanding of concrete mix design, placement, curing, and testing procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites as needed.
• Current training in fall protection, scaffolding and ladders, and work-zone safety.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.4 welding requirements for reinforcing steel (preferred).
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification preferred.
• Ability to complete and submit inspection reports accurately and on time.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to obtain additional certifications as needed.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team.
• Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and QA/QC procedures.
