About the Role

As a Summer Student, Labourer, you will gain practical experience and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified technical professionals. This is an opportunity to jump start your career, gain an understanding of bridge and highway construction, and make impacts to the Provincial road network of Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a wide range of highway construction and maintenance duties.
• Participate in manual brush cutting.
• Paint lines and trucks.
• Perform litter pickup.
• Engage in general building and yard maintenance.
• Participate in training courses for Standard First Aid, WHMIS, Traffic Control Person, and Bush Saw safety.
• Utilize provided technical and protective equipment.

Requirements

• Must be a high school student, at least 16 years of age, and returning to school in the fall (or next applicable semester).
• A valid Class 5 driver's license is preferred.
• An acceptable driver abstract must be submitted before employment begins.
• Demonstrate a keen interest in highway and bridge construction and maintenance activities.
• Must be an excellent communicator who provides professional customer service.
• Must be a team player.
• Must be safety aware.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in situations.
• Ability to follow safe work practices.
• Familiarity with construction sites is an asset.
• Exposure to heavy equipment is an asset.
• Applications must be complete and include all necessary information.
• Must be able to perform duties as necessary within their zone.
