About the Role

The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. This role provides day-to-day direction to Frontline Workers and assists with the administration and operation of the Hostel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to Frontline Workers.
  • Schedule, conduct, and document supervision.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews and Evaluations.
  • Attend and actively participate in Team meetings.
  • Provide back-up support to Frontline Staff and their functions.
  • Complete shift schedules in accordance with current policies.
  • Prepare and submit Frontline Workers hours of work bi-weekly for payroll submission.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the Hostel.
  • Ensure residents and community members receive proper Customer Service.
  • Read daily log books and make necessary follow-up.
  • Assist with monitoring Service Restrictions imposed on residents.
  • Attend monthly Resident’s Meetings.
  • Assist with the administration of the Hostel.
  • Gather and submit statistics applicable to Frontline Workers on a monthly basis.
  • Compile and submit the monthly snapshot, service restrictions, meal count and the In Kinds Good tally.
  • Give direction and ensure SMIS entries are completed properly.
  • Assist in ensuring the Hostel is in compliance and meeting standards for Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
  • Attend Committee and Agency meetings.
  • Participate in the Policy Review Committee.
  • Input triage data into database as required.
  • Ensure up to date Frontline Worker contact information is forwarded.
  • Monitor and maintain the Frontline Worker relief pool.
  • Assist with the orientation of new staff.
  • Assist with the interview process when requested.
  • Monitor and notify of staff training needs.
  • Keep an updated record of all sick days, vacations days, lieu and stat days taken by each staff.
  • Assist with staff training.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements specific to the Hostel are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Perform workplace inspections.
  • Conduct information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings).
  • Assist with incident investigations.
  • Assist with employee health and safety training.
  • Assist, make recommendations and/or correct substandard acts or conditions.
  • Assist in commending employee health and safety performance.
  • Perform employee safety observations.
  • Ensure compliance with specific Hostel requirements within sections 25 & 26 of the OHSA.
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Engage in formal supervision and performance evaluations.
  • Read and follow the policy and procedures manual, the Employee Handbook and the Toronto Shelter Standards.
  • Become familiar with the job descriptions and task lists for each position that reports to the Front Line Supervisor.
  • Make suggestions to the Management team that will improve efficiency, working conditions and/or procedures.
  • Represent the Organization in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years Supervisory Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Toronto Hostel Standards
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Second language an asset
  • Criminal Record Check clearance for the Vulnerable Sector

Salary/Compensations

  • $58,531.20 to $73,174.40 with a maximum of $87,817.60
