About the Role

Our Cyber team is looking for an experienced Development Underwriter who knows the Lloyd's and London market and is ready to take ownership of a broker portfolio. You'll bring both technical underwriting expertise and strong commercial instincts — writing new and renewal business while building lasting broker relationships. Working as part of a close-knit team, you'll play a meaningful role in growing and developing the book.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and assess risk for products and accounts from assigned brokers.
  • Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Underwrite accounts and risks, considering different approaches to maximize profitability.
  • Make prompt, sound decisions within underwriting authority based on appropriate information.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with requirements and standards within submission timeframe.
  • Understand and execute product segment strategies to produce budgeted results.
  • Continuously manage book of business to maintain quality.
  • Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation and adherence to standards.
  • Embrace required working practices to deliver appropriate and timely underwriting service.
  • Actively engage and seek out training opportunities to further develop underwriting expertise.
  • Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through visibility and a disciplined sales management approach.
  • Effectively develop and execute sales plans for assigned brokers.
  • Create and achieve sales plans that identify and capture new business opportunities and cross-sell products.
  • Seek out and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other business units and regions.
  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled underwriting and/or sales meetings.
  • Demonstrate superior customer service standards.
  • Assist others to help achieve underwriting, sales and production goals.
  • Work tactically with brokers to ensure they understand TICL goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree education.
  • Working knowledge of industry business operations and work methods, critical business issues and financial drivers.
  • Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace and uses that knowledge to the Company's advantage.
  • Seeks out, builds, fosters and maintains productive relationships or alliances.
  • Uses knowledge of internal and external factors that impact assigned product portfolio to make decisions.
  • Identifies problems or opportunities, analyzes and synthesizes information, and explores alternatives.
  • Utilizes understanding of finance and accounting principles to identify the impact of underwriting decisions on profitability.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency and application of knowledge commensurate to underwriting authority.
  • Makes sound quoting and pricing decisions.
  • Previous experience of underwriting in management liability/professional indemnity/financial institutions.
