About the Role
GAI Consultants is seeking a Senior Environmental Manager 2 to provide advanced experience and team leadership in environmental studies and permitting and/or siting studies. The primary responsibility will be to provide project and task leadership for siting, permitting, and documentation efforts relating to electric transmission projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead electric transmission line siting investigation tasks and prepare siting documentation for regulatory review.
- Lead environmental resource investigation tasks and prepare permit applications and associated environmental reports.
- Manage budgets, scopes, and schedules and quality of deliverables for specific tasks or overall projects.
- Lead coordination with clients and regulatory agencies.
- Manage technical investigations including wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
- Conduct business development activities with new and existing clients.
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
- Supervise staff of direct-report technical staff and provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
- Lead implementation and compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
- Strong technical writing ability.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be able to travel, including overnight trips, estimated to occur monthly but may vary.
- Travel to clients, projects, and meetings in the mid-Atlantic and Midwest (up to 20%).
- Well-rounded with aspects of consulting, industry standards and Company protocols, participation in professional societies and industry associations is preferred.
- Ability to come up with ideas to improve productivity of a specific team, department, group, or division.
- Strategic thinking and alignment: Manager must understand broader organizational strategies and goals to effectively guide direct reports' efforts.
- Change leadership: Manager plays an important role enacting top-level changes across operational divisions as supporters of change.
- Oversight and coordination of project tasks.

- Provides opportunities to junior staff for becoming familiar with task management and financials.
- Recruiting and retaining staff.
- Interpreting the strategy of top-level management and translating it into everyday policies.

- Oversee learning, coaching, and career progression.
- Starts to serve as a Project Manager on midsize to large projects.
- Serves as the leader of the environmental scope of the project; receives administrative support and direction from Business Sector Leaders and higher-level officials of the Company.
- Continues to manage staff with diverse skills and has a focus on supporting career path and technical growth.
