About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our award-winning Data Science team. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role working centrally across the business, partnering with various teams to develop and deploy ML and AI solutions that drive outcomes across our two-sided marketplace. You will translate ambiguous business problems into structured, production-ready solutions and own them end-to-end.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data science initiatives from problem framing through to deployment, monitoring, and iteration, owning the full production lifecycle.
  • Ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and performing in the real world.
  • Design and build LLM-powered solutions for business value, such as document processing, intelligent search, and content understanding.
  • Apply LLMs alongside classical ML, judging where each approach is most effective.
  • Connect work directly to business outcomes, building models to improve marketing efficiency, pricing, or recommendation engines.
  • Understand the business levers being pulled and design solutions accordingly.
  • Move fast to test ideas before committing to full-scale development.
  • Define rigorous success metrics, validate honestly, and know when to iterate or pivot.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand problems deeply before proposing solutions.
  • Translate findings into clear, actionable narratives for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to shared best practices, documentation, and ways of working.
  • Drive continued adoption of AI capabilities for efficiencies and automation.

Requirements

  • Strong track record of building, deploying, and maintaining ML models in Python in a production environment.
  • Experience owning models after shipping and maintaining their health.
  • Comfortable owning the end-to-end production lifecycle, including model training, versioning, monitoring, and experimentation, without a dedicated ML engineering team.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-powered solutions that deliver measurable business value.
  • Understanding of how to apply, evaluate, and extend LLM tools, and awareness of their limitations.
  • Think about business impact first, understanding how models connect to revenue, efficiency, or customer outcomes.
  • Prioritize, scope, and communicate work based on business impact.
  • Navigate the tooling landscape with clear judgment, knowing when to use classical ML, GenAI, or simpler solutions.
  • Strong instincts for scalability, reliability, and explainability.
  • Solid experience in a cloud ML environment (e.g., Vertex AI, SageMaker).
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including version control, code reviews, unit testing, and familiarity with containerization.
  • Proven ability to work with commercial, marketing, and product stakeholders.
  • Translate business problems into well-scoped solutions and communicate outcomes clearly.
  • Strong foundation in statistical evaluation and experiment design.
  • Ability to define and defend success metrics, and identify and address model degradation.
  • Desirable: Marketplace or two-sided platform experience, understanding of supply/demand dynamics and data science leverage in a marketplace.
