About the Role

The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. This role supports the Child Care Program by providing age-based activities and ensuring a safe environment for children.

Responsibilities

• Provide input into planning and assist with the implementation of appropriate age-based activities.
• Promote social interaction and personal development through activities.
• Provide feedback on child’s development.
• Assist with effective risk management, including food safety, medication storage, allergies, and facility cleanliness.
• Provide emergency first aid and complete incident reports.
• Role model appropriate behaviors and attitudes.
• Ensure full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary.
• Report identified needs to team members, Child Care Program Director or designate.
• Report property damage, mechanical breakdowns, and needed repairs.
• Perform other position-related duties as required.

Requirements

• Completed Secondary School.
• Minimum of six (6) months of prior work experience working with children (including special populations).
• Previous day’s camp experience is an asset.
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
• Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
• Must undergo a health assessment and immunization.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
• Must have physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure fast-paced conditions.
• Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training.
• Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
• Ensure that all certifications are maintained as required.
• Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
• Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
• Provide an original copy of a vulnerable sector check search.

• No guaranteed hours
• Work offered as per hours of operation Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Includes a ½ hour paid meal-break where applicable.

• Early Childhood Education Diploma, preferred

Salary/Compensations

• The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $25.11 with a maximum of $30.13.
