About the Role

To provide library services to meet the information needs of clients within PHO, the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, and to support organizational activities for public health units.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and documentation of comprehensive bibliographic database search strategies supporting PHO knowledge products.
• Manage literature search projects, reprioritizing deliverables, negotiating timelines, and scoping deliverables.
• Provide reference service, interlibrary loans, environmental scans, and current awareness services.
• Deliver completed information products in appropriate formats.
• Support library collection development through user needs analyses, selection, acquisition, cataloguing, and processing of new materials.
• Develop the collection catalogue, conduct annual inventory, and manage subscription renewals and procurement.
• Provide user instruction and orientation services for new staff and teach knowledge-based information searching techniques.
• Collaborate with the Manager and library colleagues on information program development and innovative library services.
• Create and manage custom information tools such as databases, wikis, and pathfinders.
• Provide library expertise and consultative advice for knowledge management initiatives.
• Support PHO authors with advice on the scientific publishing process, including copyright protection and database assistance.
• Collaborate with other public health libraries on assigned projects and support the provincial Shared Library Services Partnership.
• Supervise and train library program students.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Promote library services and resources and provide instructional opportunities to clients.

Requirements

• Highly developed literature searching skills with the ability to design and encode exhaustive, replicable searches.
• Ability to report searches transparently to meet systematic review standards.
• Advanced knowledge of Canadian and international public health grey literature sources and search techniques.
• Knowledge of library service standards, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of science and information science theories, principles, and practices.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in health sciences library requirements.
• Cataloguing skills and knowledge of Medical Library Association guidelines and the Library of Congress classification scheme.
• Knowledge of MARC, AACR, and IRDA cataloguing standards.
• Knowledge of on-line interlibrary loan systems.
• Understanding of Evidence Based Practice (EBP).
• Advanced knowledge of evidence synthesis research methodologies, standards, and best practices.
• Ability to communicate systematic review search methods and results.
• Knowledge of information organization, storage, retrieval, and transfer, including electronic platforms.
• Knowledge of computer, instructional, and information management technologies.
• Knowledge of the public health field to meet specific needs of PHO staff and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Grey Literature in the health sciences field.
• Knowledge of current and emerging technology and skills in automated library information systems and electronic resources.
• Skills in specialized library databases and software applications, e-resource management, and web architecture.
• Skills in a SharePoint environment.
• Efficient application of Artificial Intelligence in research and library practice.
• Advanced knowledge of scientific publishing standards and practices.
• PC skills in Microsoft Office, internet applications, web-conferencing software, library cataloging systems, and electronic databases.
