About the Role
CBC London leads the way in multi-platform storytelling, emphasizing live and responsive reporting rooted in the community. This role involves reporting, producing, and presenting news for radio and digital platforms, setting the news agenda, and providing critical information to audiences.
Responsibilities
- Reporting, producing, and presenting news on London Morning and contributing stories to digital platforms.
- Presenting newscasts and engaging with audiences through appropriate platforms.
- Guiding editorial decisions and tapping into local communities.
- Experimenting with different storytelling formats and technology.
- Pitching and chasing original ideas that set the agenda in London.
- Interviewing sources and writing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Packaging, preparing, and delivering radio newscasts and bulletins.
- Gathering, capturing, editing, and manipulating content using current technology.
- Editing stories written by team members when needed.
- Identifying potential legal issues and journalistic policy violations.
- Responding in breaking situations and working under the daily pressures of a busy newsroom.
- Gathering audio and video material in the field, editing and packaging it for audience sharing.
- Operating a console in a radio studio.
- Going to air in a live environment while meeting multiple deadlines.
Requirements
- Experience and proven ability to write and voice concise and critical stories for radio.
- Experience in the field as a reporter with examples of enterprise journalism.
- Experience working in a live broadcast environment.
- Demonstrated connection to and knowledge of London and region.
- Proven ability to work in a diverse team.
- Technical ability to self-operate radio control-booth equipment to record news reports and scripts.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
- Five years of experience in news media.
- Must possess a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings.
- Willingness to learn CBC's tools.
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
- Candidates who advance to the next step will be asked to complete a background check, including a mandatory Criminal record check.
