About the Role

HWF is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Manager to design, implement, and maintain the firm’s risk and compliance framework across all jurisdictions. This central control function role ensures regulatory compliance, effective risk management, and alignment with Ardonagh Group standards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments across HWF’s offices in the UK, EU, DIFC, and US.
  • Maintain and update the compliance framework, ensuring alignment with Ardonagh Group policies and local regulatory compliance.
  • Own and manage Terms of Business Agreements (ToBAs) with insurers and introducers.
  • Manage cross-border placement compliance in non-licensed jurisdictions.
  • Deliver Management Information (MI) to senior management, Boards, and the Speciality Compliance Function, including KRIs, regulatory updates, and risk/control assessments.
  • Deliver new joiner induction and ongoing training programmes on compliance and financial crime.
  • Promote a strong risk and compliance culture and awareness of regulatory obligations.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with the financial crime framework, including AML/CTF policies and KYC procedures.
  • Assess and complete referrals in line with Internal Suspicious Activity Reports escalation processes.
  • Ensure financial crime risk is embedded in new product approvals and provide clear reporting on financial crime exposure to partners.
  • Deliver and maintain role-specific financial crime training and oversee outsourced controls and third-party relationships.
  • Own and maintain the enterprise risk management framework, including the risk register, appetite, tolerance thresholds, control effectiveness reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure clear escalation routes for material risks and timely reporting to senior management and the Board.
  • Develop and maintain committee reporting and documentation.
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on data protection, providing advice and guidance on data handling risks.
  • Support data breach response processes and privacy maturity development.
  • Oversee alignment with Ardonagh Group policies and procedures for data protection.
  • Ensure compliance with local data protection regulations (UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and DIFC Data Protection Regulations 2020).

Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience in financial services risk and compliance.
  • Experience within general insurance or specialty insurance.
  • Experience operating in multi-jurisdiction environments.
  • Knowledge of FCA regulatory framework (including AR model).
  • Knowledge of general insurance regulation (UK ICOBS and EU IDD frameworks).
  • Knowledge of financial crime regulations in the UK and EU, including Sanctions, AML, CTF, and ABC.
  • Understanding of U.S. financial crime requirements, including AML frameworks and OFAC sanctions regimes, and their application to non-U.S. firms.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU GDPR.
  • Knowledge of DFSA / DIFC regulatory environment (desirable).
